Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jacob showed consistent ability on all sides of the baseball at the UAAAPS Event with Baseball Factory. At the hot corner, he prepped his feet in anticipation, and worked to ground balls with great energy. He showed some feel for the position and threw across the diamond from the high 3/4 slot. At the plate, he worked inside contact with a level path and hit to all fields. He was smooth to load and direct to the baseball allowing for consistent contact. On the mound, he gathered over the rubber, separated on-time and finished with his chest over his front knee. He worked his lower half well and was deceptive hiding the ball. He showed a FB from 74-76 with signs of command, a CB from 56-57, and a SL from 58-59. Overall - Jacob is entering his senior spring season ready to make a statement.

06/29/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Jacob continues to show as a 3B/RHP at the event. At 3B, his feet are active as he squares balls up. His hands are clean, moves well laterally, and he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds and turns of the double play. He attacks balls and plays through with his body while presenting hands out front. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup with balance. His hands are quick and work through a level swing path. Jacob shows plus barrel accuracy with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, his fastball showed a range of 73-75 mph. His breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Jacob's abilites on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Overall, Jacob is an athletic two way player with the abilities to contribute at the next level.

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jacob is a lean RHP/3B who will graduate in 2017. At 3B, he is a smooth / fluid fielder with hands / feet working well together through the process. He moves well laterally and shows a plus backhand. Hands are soft / sure as he presents well out front and plays with a lot of energy. At the plate, he is selective and works through a squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he uses his lower half more aggressively. FB ranges from 71-74 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with gradual break. He slows his arm speed, tipping off his pitch to hitters. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength and work to throw more strikes which will aid in his development on the mound. Jacob has abilities with a lot of room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
