05/07/2017 - National Tryout Plus - College Station, TX Jacob continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.21. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.09 as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process but will benefit by working to get his body down sooner. In the MIF, feet are aggressive as he works around and plays through balls well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. Defensive abilities will continue to improve as he quickens his feeds / turns of the double play. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with balance. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently.

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Jacob is a very polite and team-oriented, C and SS, who was willing to do anything to help his team succeed in Pirate City. Offensively, he was a tough out at the plate (1 strikeout in 10 AB's), as he displayed strong contact skills and a good knowledge of the strike zone. Balance and hand to eye coordination were both very strong, as was his ability to control the barrel of his bat. Getting his hands into a load position pre-pitch will help with overall power to all fields. Defensively at SS, he showed low hips and reliable hands which were presented out in front to field. Behind the dish, he again showed reliable hands, which helped his framing and blocking skills in a big way. Long tossing to improve arm strength will help his play at both positions. Only a 2020 graduate, Jacob already shows impressive skills on both sides of the ball, and with continued hard work to be the best player he can be, Jacob can be a very special prospect.

06/20/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Houston, TX Madden is a very talented 2-way player (C/SS) who showed very well on the diamond. With the bat, this RHH has a balanced setup with fluid rhythm to load. Hands are quick as he takes a hack, barreling the ball up and driving it back up the middle of the field. Even more power potential is there with more drive from his lower 1/2. Behind the plate, he presents a low/soft target and sticks pitches in the zone. Throws to 2B are accurate with pop times now at 2.28. At SS, Jacob puts his athleticism on display. He has plus lateral range, gathers well and works in-line toward his target. Only a 2020 grad - the future looks very bright for this 2-way prospect.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Jacob is a hardworking, coachable player who showed very well during his time at the Winter Classic. Behind the plate, he shows a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show in the 2.40 range with accuracy as he puts the ball on the bag. At the plate, hands are strong / quick and work through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. At the event, he was 5 for 9 with a 2B, 4 singles and a walk. With 5 years to further develop, Jacob is a solid prospect who will be a sure player to follow.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
