04/21/2013 - College PREP - Greenville, SC Jacob showed improved arm strength and his best velocity to date during his last workout in Greenville, SC. He was clocked at 82 MPH, and raised his arm grade to 45. Defensively, Jacob displayed soft hands, fluid footwork, and he fields in a square position. He attacks aggressively, his exchange is quick, and he throws with a short / loose arm to his target. Playing more through the ball will help defense continue to improve. At the plate, Jacob has an athletic set-up, good balance, and a level swing. He makes consistent contact, he has a line drive approach, and he uses his lower 1/2 well. Hitting can improve if Jacob can avoid wrapping the bat, use more top hand, and swing in better rhythm.

07/29/2012 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament Platt continues to show solid abilities in the MIF and at the plate. Feet are active as he moves well laterally, displaying range. Hands / feet work together well as he is fundamentally sound. At the plate, he shows a solid setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. He worked hard on being more direct to contact and incorporated his lower half more in his swing as the tournament went on. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be.

03/04/2012 - College PREP - Greenville, SC Jacob has improved since we last saw him. Foot speed has really improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.16. He utilizes his quick feet well as he gets out of the box well, running a 4.08 to 1B. Defensive grades at 2B have also improved with hands / feet working well through the fielding process. Glove action is presented out front, displaying soft / clean hands. At the plate, power numbers have improved with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. He loads well with hands working through a level swing path but needs to work to keep hands inside the ball more to utilize all fields.

08/03/2011 - Pirate City World Series 2011 - Session 1 Platt continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date but will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness. Offensively, Jacob has improved hitting grades to solid average through an athletic setup. He loads well with rhythm and works hands and lower half through the ball well at contact. At the event, he was 6 for 9 with 2 2B and 3 BB. He plays hard and is a solid MIF that has as a good understanding for the game.

07/15/2010 - Cape Cod Training 2010 - Session 2 Platt continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He ran his fastest 60 time to date, posting an 8.13. Arm strength has improved with throws showing accuracy through a loose arm action. He will benefit by staying on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and carry. He has instincts in the middle of the IF and will improve quickly with more reps. His hands and feet work well together. Offensively, Jacob shows good barrel accuracy and an aggressive, line drive approach. Jacob is a hard nosed played with quality make up and good athleticism. We expect his tools to continue to improve as he gets older.

06/06/2010 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Jacob is a young, 2014 graduate that showed as a SS for us. His feet are active and aggressive in coming to get and playing through the baseball. Glove action is clean and sure, and presented down and out front. His hands and feet also work well together in getting rid of the baseball quickly. Currently, his arm is more suited for 2B, though that may change as he physically matures. Platt will benefit from a long toss program to help generate more arm strength. Offensively, he shows a balanced, aggressive approach and has a level swing path allowing him to make consistent contact. With 3 years to further develop, Jacob has potential with time and room to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
