02/25/2018 - College PREP - Sioux Falls, SD Jacob is a strong 1B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2020. In the field, Jacob shows quick footwork and flashes good range to his backhand side. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He has a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws which allows them to be consistently on-line to his target. Jacob can improve defensively by improving his footwork approaching slow rollers. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting back into his load and comes through well with his lower half. He takes a short swing with explosive bat speed which leads to hard contact and good power. Jacob can improve as a hitter by removing the toe tap in his load to improve his timing. On the mound, Jacob shows a solid delivery as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm action and stays inline towards the plate. Jacob has a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 74mph. Breaking ball ranges from 62-67mph with 12-6 break. Splitter sits from 68-70mph and flashes good sinking action. Jacob can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. Overall, Jacob is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
