12/07/2008 - College PREP - Cedar Hill (DFW), TX Jacob is a switch-hitting middle infielder with a projectable body. Good idea in the infield with solid body control. Moves to and through the play efficiently and pretty good carry across the diamond. Has a better feel from the right side of the plate. Good plane and the ability to spray it around—good feel with his hands. All upper body from both sides. Really needs to utilize his lower half more effectively. Has some life in his hands from the left side, too, but tends to flick the bat at the ball which causes him to roll over. Stance is too narrow to allow him much balance or weight transfer. Has some raw athleticism including some very raw offensive power, but needs to continue to polish up his offensive approach. Has the chance to be a solid college infielder.

05/18/2008 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Jacob is a tall athletic player with potential at the next level. At SS, Jacob has soft hands and takes great angles to the ball. He shows proper footwork and everything is easy. He needs to work on his quickness and developing a long toss program to help with arm strength. However, he is an above average defender. At the plate, Jacob has bat speed and balance from both sides. He is loose and is direct to the ball. From the left side, Jacob needs to better utilize his lower half in order to create more power. From the right, he creates pop especially to the pull side. Overall, with some fine tuning, Jacob can contribute at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
