12/27/2017 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Jake continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a bright future on the diamond. At the plate is where he has improved the most through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.15 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength. He shows a solid setup and soft glove action, sticking balls in the zone well. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind the plate. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 80-83 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, close to fastball velocity. Control is tremendous as he attacks hitters and through strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

07/17/2017 - College PREP - Minneapolis, MN Jack is a solid, strong RHP/C who has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good -tempo through a strong balance point. Arm strength is well above average as indicated by his top velocity of 84 mph. Fastball showed a range of 81-84 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard to fastball velocities. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Behind the plate, hands / feet work well together through a clean transfer / exchange in getting rid of the baseball. Pop times show a range of 2.11-2.20 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Hands are soft and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking and is a wall behind the plate. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path, creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. Jake has an upside on the mound and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
