07/17/2010 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Jake showed good skills at Team One West and still projects as a solid player at the next level. Defensively, Jake reads the ball off the bat well and he attacks it aggressively. He has good footwork and covers ground well in the OF. Jake has plays through the ball well and throws accurately to his target. Added arm strength and carry will help defensive abilities get even better. At the plate, Jake has a short stroke and he stays inside the ball well. He has good bat speed, he uses his hips well, and can work the ball to all fields.

06/20/2010 - College PREP - Lakewood (Denver), CO Jake is an athletic Outfielder with a good set of baseball skills. Defensively, Jake has good footwork, hands, and arm action. He has an aggressive approach in the OF, he gets behind the ball well, and he makes plays. Jake throws accurately to his target, with some carry. Added arm strength will help Jake improve defensively as he approaches his Senior year. Offensively, Jake has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He is a strong hitter with a good base. Jake can hit to all fields, he makes good use of his lower 1/2, and shows projectable tools at the plate. If Jake can keep his hands high and maintain a firm front side, strong offensive grades can get better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
