08/03/2017 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Jake is a hardworking LHP/1B prospect who has a versatile skill set and graduates in 2019. On the mound, Jake has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a low 3/4 arm slot. He has a loose arm action and cuts off his release. Jake lands closed to home plate with the proper stride length. He does a nice job rotating towards his target as he finishes. Jake has tail action on his fastball and a medium breaking curveball showing good spin. As a right-handed hitter, Jake has a square setup with his weight in the front of his stance. He takes a short stride and partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Jake tracks the ball well and shows a direct swing path with simple mechanics. He has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. In the field, Jake plays with effective footwork and tracks the ball well. He shows a good glove with a clean exchange. Jake has a loose arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a quick release showing accurate throws across the diamond. Overall, Jake has a well-rounded game with a great attitude giving him potential to get even better.

04/30/2017 - College PREP - Phoenix, AZ Jake showed on the mound and at 1B for the first time at the event. He continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 71 mph. Fastball showed tailing action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with early break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Feet are active and he shows a low approach but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup and tracks the ball well. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently.

04/24/2016 - College PREP - Phoenix, AZ Jake is a lean, athletic LHP who will graduate in 2019. On the bump, this lefty throws a 3-pitch mix coming from a low 3/4 arm slot and loose/free arm action. He works through a strong balance point and has smooth overall actions. FB ranges from 63-65 mph. Changeup is best off speed pitch as he maintains arm speed and shows a feel for pitch with tailing action. Breaking ball has 2/8 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters, throwing strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength and will aid in his development on the mound. With 3 years to further develop, Jake has abilities with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
