09/19/2010 - College PREP - Santa Barbara, CA Jake is a 2B with a stocky frame that shows projection as he continues to polish, firming up. Feet are active in working around and playing through the baseball with his body. He moves well laterally, displaying range with confidence in his backhand. Glove action is soft, clean, and smooth in making the plays. Hands and feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with throws showing accuracy. He needs to get on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and carry. Offensively, Mills shows a balanced approach as he loads well with hands working inside the baseball, utilizing all fields. Swing path is level and he utilizes his lower half well through the swing displaying gap to gap power when he centers the baseball. He could also play 3B at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
