03/26/2017 - College PREP - Harmony (Pittsburgh), PA Jake continues to work hard on the diamond. In the OF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. He works to get behind balls but will benefit by playing through more with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At 2B, feet are aggressive as he attacks balls in taking proper angles to work around balls. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. Throws display accuracy and carry across the diamond but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive swing path. Working to get stride foot down sooner to work on time will aid in improving hitting abilities.

Throws are accurate but will become stronger as he works to gain more ground with a crow-hop and get on a long toss program. At 2B - Jake takes good angles and works around the GB into a square fielding position. He gathers well and gets rid of the ball quickly. Offensively, he has a balanced setup with rhythm to load. Swing is level as he connects and works to drive the middle of the field. Added power will come as he works to swing with increased bat speed as well as creating more extension through contact. Jake is a hard worker who still has time to develop to get to where he wants to be.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
