10/17/2010 - College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Jake is a young, thin, lanky 1st baseman that will graduate in 2012. In the INF, Jake has soft / sure hands, playable feet, and athletic movements. He can cover a lot of ground, he fields the ball cleanly, and he plays hard. Jake has a loose arm action and throws accurately with some life to his target. Defensive grades can further improve if Jake can field more on the glove side and use his feet a little more. Offensively, Jake has a square stance, short stride, and good balance. He has a fast / quick bat, short swing, and he makes hard contact. Jake has a line drive approach at the plate and can hit the ball hard to the pull side. More direct hands to the ball will only help solid numbers get even better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
