08/01/2021 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (HS) Jake is a coachable RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Jake operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 61-65mph with 11-5 break. Changeup shows good arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a closed stance and takes a controlled stride. He gets into a small load and drives through well with his lower half. He works through a compact swing with fast bat speed, driving the ball from gap to gap. Overall, Jake is a talented prospect who has a ton of upside.

09/04/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Frederick, MD Jake showed only on the mound at the event and continues to show a promising future. On the bump, he works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and fires from a clean/loose arm action. He gets strong glove-side lead and stays directional toward the dish. FB ranges from 75-80 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball shows 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for pitch with sinking action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side.

06/23/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Frederick, MD Jake continues to progress. At the plate, he has active hands with good rhythm and is ready to jump on a pitch he likes. Quick hands fire the barrel to and through the zone with plus bat speed as he connects and hits hard line-drives. Defensively, ball is quick from glove to hand with zip on his throws. Thanks to his arm strength he has the ability to make the tough backhand play and throw with carry from across the diamond. Jake continues to develop and show upside.

06/15/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Bowie, MD Jake is a very talented 3B prospect who continues to shine on the diamond. At the plate, this strong RHH steps into the box with a purpose. He takes a hack with plus bat speed, connects and drives the ball to the gaps (exit velocity = 84 mph). At 3B, he shows fluid actions working right to left through the GB. Hands are presented out in front as he funnels to a quick/clean transfer. He can make the backhand play with ease and fire strong throws with zip (83 mph velocity) across the diamond. A projectable R/R 3B - Jake has a bright future ahead of him in the game.

06/07/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Bowie, MD Jake is a 3B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the diamond. At 3B, Jake shows efficient footwork and gets into a square position. He fields the ball out in front of his body and has a clean exchange to throw. The ball is quick from glove to hand with zip on his throws. He gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate and on-line through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a short stride. He engages his lower 1/2 and whips the barrel through the zone with speed as he connects with pop. Overall, Jake is a solid prospect who shows a ton of upside as a 2-way guy.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Jake is a 3B/RHP prospect who continued to showcase his skills at the All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament. On the mound, Jake starts with a simple rock step and utilizes his lower 1/2 pushing off of the rubber. He is fluid separating his hands on time and works with a clean arm, finishing with a controlled landing. He has a three pitch mix with his FB showing sinking action. He works the ball in and out, mixes his pitches and keeps hitters off balance. Curveball shows to be well above average with sharp action and is a swing and miss type of pitch. Changeup has late sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed, complimenting his FB well. In the field, Jake shows active footwork and fields in a square position. He makes a two-handed exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, showing good strength across the diamond. At the plate, this RHH sets up with his hands held high. He gets into his load on time and takes a compact swing. He rotates his core well and produces solid line drives to all fields. With three more years to fine tune his skills, Jake has a ton of upside and will only continue to improve.

07/17/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Jake continues to progress in his skill-set. He is a very coachable player who has a passion for the game. On the mound, FB now tops out at 73 mph as he comes across his body, helping to create deception and keep hitters off balance. He compliments his FB with a sharp/tight slider that he can throw for a strike in any count. He repeats well and attacks the zone. Jake does a nice job of mixing in a slide step to keep base runners close. At 3B, he hustles into a square fielding position, presents his glove and tracks GB's into his mitt. Exchange is clean with zip on his throws across the diamond. As a hitter, this righty steps in looking to swing it. Hands are quick as he whips the bat with speed to and through the contact point. He likes the pitch middle-in showing some good pull-side pop. Only a 2022, this young & versatile player still has a ton of upside.

06/24/2018 - College PREP - Columbia, MD Jake continues to develop his all-around skill set on the diamond. As he continues to mature and fill out physically, power and arm strength (76 mph) will only continue to progress. At the plate, this RHH stands in with a solid base and rhythm in his hands. He takes aggressive hacks at pitches in the zone and looks to spray line drives. Working on getting his front foot landing (timing) consistent while swinging against a firm front side will allow for even more power potential. At 3B, Jake hustles to a spot and tracks GB's into his mitt. He has a quick release and strong arm, zipping the ball across the diamond accurately to 1B. By continuing to develop his footwork on his approach to the GB, it will allow everything to work together smoother through the fielding process. On the mound, this RHP looks to attack the zone with 3 solid pitches. He drives his lower 1/2 off of the rubber and works downhill. Slider is a go to pitch with good action and 11/5 shape. Changeup shows sink and compliments his FB well. Only a 2022 grad, Jake has a ton of upside as he continues to build strength.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Jake continues to shine on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 68 mph. Fastball shows a range of 64-68 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 3B, he displays smooth actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable, and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/18/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Jake is a two-way 3B/RHP who will graduate in 2022. At the plate, he showed the ability to make consistent contact and showed a simple, smooth approach. He starts from an athletic stance and is direct to the ball with his hands, creating a slightly uphill swing path. His smooth approach helps him to drive balls to the middle of the field and consistently hit low, hard line drives. Letting the ball travel will help Jake hit balls the other way more consistently. In the infield, he takes good angles towards the baseball and fields the ball out in front. He displays a strong arm allowing him to play the left side of the infield. On the mound, he showed good mechanics allowing him to be consistent with his delivery. He showed a fastball and a curveball with good feel for both. Jake possesses solid fundamentals and a strong work ethic which will make him a fun player to follow.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
