07/05/2018 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Jake continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He works to square ball up and makes the routine plays. He displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power potential, displaying similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent hard contact through line drive approach with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 64 mph. Fastball showed a range of 58-64 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with graduate break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch. Control is a plus as he throws strikes to both sides of the plate. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

08/03/2017 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 12-14) Jake is a coachable 1B/LHP who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Historic Dodgertown. In the field, Jake shows active footwork and covers ground well. He gets into a low position and funnels the ball into his body. He has a quick exchange with a quick release on his throws which allows them to remain accurate and carry through his target. Jake can improve defensively by fielding the ball out in front of his body. At the plate, this switch hitter shows a solid swing from both sides. He sets up in an open stance and takes his stride on time. He is smooth getting into his load and comes through the zone with decent bat speed which leads to consistent contact to all fields. Jake can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half through the zone. On the mound, Jake shows great balance balance throughout his motion with a very clean arm action. He has a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 60mph with some arm side tail. Changeup sits at 47mph. Jake can improve as a pitcher by extending through on his release. With five more years to develop, Jake has the time and potential to further progress his game.

04/23/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Jake is a solid 1B/LHP. Defensively at 1B, he makes aggressive cuts as he works into an athletic fielding position. He fields GB's with soft hands and comes up with a clean exchange to throw. On the mound, this LHP keeps his eyes on target and delivers from a hi 3/4 arm slot. He separates on time and works in line towards his target. With the stick, Jake has smooth rhythm to load. He takes aggressive hacks through the zone as he drives pitches from gap to gap. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
