Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Jake continues to show solid baseball skills both at 1B and on the mound. He improved in many categories during his time at the UA Preseason All-America. At 1B, Jake has a plus arm with plenty of life and carry. He can throw from all angles, has sound footwork, and turns a nice double play. His arm and fielding grades both improved from 50 to 55 and 48 to 52 respectively. On the mound, Jakes FB touched 89 MPH, which is improved from 84 MPH at the last event. He throws 4 solid pitches with his over the top arm slot, and the ball comes easily out of his hand. Jake is smooth to his balance point, he has solid tempo, and he works well at the hitters knees. More lower 1/2 extension, and a looser finish could help Jake's abilities on the mound improve. Offensively, Jake has good balance, bat speed, and loads of power. His swing is level, the ball jumps off of his bat, and he gets good backspin on the ball. Jake is a solid 2-way player at the next level.

07/25/2009 - Team One North 2009 Jake is a two-way player at 1B and on the mound with a tall, large frame that is suited well for both positions. Currently, he only projects at 1B at the next level. Foot speed is solid average as indicated by his 7.35 60 time. Feet are active and aggressive in his approach and around the bag. Hands are soft, clean, and sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick throws out of the dirt, saving throws. Arm strength is above average showing life, carry, and accuracy into his target. At the plate is where Taylor shows best displaying well above average abilities with outstanding power through a solid approach. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball, generating plus bat speed. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. He was 2 for 5 at the event with a 3B. Jake has a ton of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches in need of a solid corner infielder that has plus power at the plate.

03/19/2006 - National Team Tryout - Maryland Mar PM INF Mini - Worked at 3B. Plays well on the move with good arm strength & release. Needs to work on flexion and get hands out in front.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
