03/07/2010 - College PREP - Plainfield, IN Jake is a big bodied first basemen that has a solid idea of how to play the 1B position. He is very aggressive to the baseball. He will need to stay down and out with his hands and body position. Feet and agility work will help his overall range at 1B. Offensively, he takes a very aggressive swing that is somewhat long at times. The ball jumps off of his bat when he makes solid contact. Better control of his lower half along with more emphasis on staying inside the baseball will help his barrel accuracy. Overall, a few solid offensive adjustments will allow him to use his barrel pop more consistently. On the mound, Jake gets good extension at times. He will need to loosen his arm action and develop a more directional path to the plate in order to increase velocity.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
