05/19/2013 - College PREP - Rochester, NY Woodrich continues to progress in his game. His offensive numbers have climbed as he has a middle of the field to approach. He utilizes his lower 1/2 well and drives the ball. In the OF, Jake stays low and plays through the ball well. He continues to make improvements in his game and will keep doing so as he is only a 2016 grad.

07/23/2012 - Interactive Video Program - Rochester, NY Jake showed well both offensively and defensively during his last workout in NY. At the plate, Jake has sure hands, active feet, and he works to the ball well. He has a decent crow, a loose arm, and throws with accuracy to his target. At the plate, Jake has a square set-up, good balance, and he finds the barrel well. He makes square contact, he can work the ball gap-to-gap, and he uses his lower 1/2.

02/18/2012 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend Jake has a good set up and also a nice athletic stride and load, that is consistent, this gets him in a ready position letting him attack the baseball. He has pretty good pop in his swing for a younger hitter; this is due the good use of his lower half and driving his backside through the swing. He also is able to deliver that power he creates because he does a good job of hitting on a stiff front side. He tends to bar is front arm during the swing, which is causing him to deliver the bat to early in the swing, rather than delivering the barrel to the baseball causing more whip in the hands resulting in a little more power. When he delivers the barrel too early, it is causing him to get around the baseball and also at times inside the baseball, and not staying behind the ball and driving through it, this is taking away from some of the power he could potential put into the baseball.

12/27/2011 - Vero Beach Christmas Camp and Tournament Jake is a 2016 graduate who plays OF. He has above average arm strength and he is accurate to his target with long/loose arm action. In the outfield Jake has an athletic fielding position, takes good angles, has plus body control, he is a hustler and has playable range. He needs to polish up his footwork by doing the agility drills from Vero and work on being more consistent with his hands. At the plate Jake has an athletic setup, balance is centered, his lower half gets through and he makes consistent contact. He needs to develop a smooth load, stride directly at the pitcher (he tends to stride towards third base) and adjust his swing path to be shorter/on plane (he is long/looping/cuts off finish). Jake did an extraordinary job in game situations executing high level approaches. He advanced a number of runners across from second to third, he had a sac fly and a successful hit and run all in game situations. Jake is a great young man who is quiet but very respectful and very coach-able. His attitude towards the game is great and he always hustles when on the field. Jake is a great teammate who any Coach would want. Every baseball team needs at least one guy like Jake so if continues to progress and makes the appropriate adjustments he will be successful in the future.

07/18/2011 - Interactive Video Program - Rochester, NY Jake is a young, tall OF with a tall build. Defensively, Jake has active / efficient feet, soft / sure hands, and he attacks the ball aggressively. He works behind the ball well, covers ground, and fields in an athletic position. Jake has a clean exchange and throws with a loose arm action with accuracy to his target. Offensively, Jake has a square set-up, a short / square stride, and good balance. He has good bat speed, he makes solid / consistent contact, and he gets good extension through the ball. Jake swings in good rhythm, and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. Overall abilities can improve if Jake can work on the following.

Defense
1. Loosen set-up position
2. Continue to quicken feet
3. Long toss
Offense
1. Stride / Load
2. More direct hands to ball
3. Shorten swing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
