Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • CPosition Projection

04/09/2017 - College PREP - Lake Charles, LA Jakob is an athletic 2018 C prospect from Louisiana. As a C, Jakob gets into an athletic primary/secondary stance, has soft hands, and works behind the ball. Jakob blocks and recovers well, but needs to be more explosive on lateral dirt balls. If he continues to work on exchanging the ball in front of chest, and be explosive on his jab step to gain ground on his throws, he will improve his overall game behind the dish. At the plate, Jakob gets his hands into the drive position, attacks the inside part of the ball, and has a strong top hand at contact. If he continues to keep his hands in rhythm pre pitch, land soft on his front foot, and get extension through the ball, he will continue to be on time at, hitting the ball hard to all fields.

06/25/2016 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Jakob is a very coachable 2-way player who has a willingness to improve. As a hitter - this righty has a balanced setup with patience and remains selective with good zone awareness. He tracks pitches out of the pitcher's hand, into the zone and off of the barrel. He shows some pop when he centers the ball and can use the who field. He had several quality at-bats and worked deep into the count. Behind the dish, Jakob presents a low/soft target and sticks pitches in the zone. He gets into an athletic secondary stance with runners on and is ready to fire. Pop times are now at 2.17. On the mound, this righty attacks the zone and challenges hitters to swing the stick. He has smooth separation and stays directional toward the dish, repeating well. FB ranges 67-69 mph while breaking ball has 11/5 shape. Working to continue to strengthen his arm (long toss) and develop his off-speed will help to improve overall effectiveness on the mound. Broocks is a very hard worker as he is willing to put in the extra time to get to where he wants to be.

04/03/2016 - College PREP - Lake Charles, LA Jakob is a solid catcher who will graduate in 2018. Behind the plate, he utilizes his athletic feet well in working in line through a clean transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show in the 2.20 range with accuracy on his throws. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools at the next level -- he is soft to receive and gets down quick to block. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. He loads well and displays quick hands that work through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. With 2 years to further develop, Jakob has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
