01/21/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Jalen continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and he has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and he has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Behind the plate, pop times in the 2.26 range with accuracy on his throws. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Glove action is soft as he sticks balls well in the zone. He uses his body well through the blocking process and centers balls well out front.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Jalen is a solid, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered with power improving as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show in the 2.25 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft and he sticks in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to get down sooner and improve his lateral movement. With 3 years to further develop, Jalen has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
