06/19/2008 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - 2008 Common showed good defensive awareness, made good decisions and showed some feel for situational defense. He also showed good range and made routine plays. Can work to get his glove down and in front of him sooner, tended to flip his glove down late at time. Arm strength has room to improve, until then he is likely best suited for 2B. At the plate, he was aggressive. He worked hard to get better during the week, and showed good bunting ability. Really needs to work to eliminate the bar in his lead arm to load, must keep it softer and keep the barrel more vertical. This will help him shorten his stroke and make his route to contact more direct. Can also generate more from his back side and lower half. Ran 7.45 in the 60-yard dash.

04/27/2008 - College PREP - Stockton, CA James is a young athletic player. At 3B, James shows soft hands and good lateral movement. He gets to the ball and gets rid of it quickly. A long toss program will help to increase arm strength. He has an idea of how to turn the double play, but he also must learn to finish his throw. At the plate, James has bat speed and he uses his hips well. He has good barrel accuracy. In order to increase hitting rating, he must learn to create some sort of load. This will help with momentum and increase power. He has potential at the next level with some fine tuning here and there.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
