06/04/2017 - College PREP - Medford (Boston), MA James is a broad, solid 3B/OF who will graduate in 2020. At the plate, is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more aggressively. In the OF, he displays smooth / clean actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Feet are aggressive as he works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At 3B, he shows a low approach and squares balls up. Feet are active but needs to attack balls more and play through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, James has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
