12/27/2022 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 James continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting abilities are now solid with well above average power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 2 for 5. In the OF, he displays smooth fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/13/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Montgomery, AL James is a OF/SS in the 2024 class. In the OF, he has fluid feet and agile movements. Has athletic feel and is aggressive in his angle pursuit. Has pocket awareness and his exchanges are clean. Uses short arm action from a high release and is accurate with his feeds back to the dirt. Working on arm strength will prevent the free 90s. On the dirt, he represents similar athletic actions. He is aggressive and works behind the ball. Working to field more out in front will allow for hop adjustment. At the plate, he begins in an athletic stance and separates on time. Weight stays between his feet and uses a direct path to the baseball. Has projectability and with further work can become a player with plus tools.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
