Official Scouting Report

  • 3BPosition Projection

04/09/2017 - College PREP - Lake Charles, LA James is a 2017 3B/RHP from Beaumont Texas. At 3B, James has active pre pitch movement, he is aggressive on balls hit left to right, plays through his back hand, and has good footwork on DP feeds. If he continues to work on funneling the ball from the ground to his arm slot, having a smooth/controlled exchange, and getting his momentum going across the diamond when throwing, he will increase his ability to play the position. At the plate, James shows fluidity in his load, uses his top hand, and makes hard contact on the ball. James needs to get a wider base, drive his back hip down to the ball, and attack the inside part of the ball. This will help him create backspin and be more consistent hitting line drives. On the mound, James Gathers over the rubber, stays around the zone with his FB, and has a good secondary pitch in the Knuckleball. If he continues to work on riding his backside toward the plate, being strong on the front leg when he strides, and getting extended over the front side will create more velocity. Continuing to have good tempo and mound presence will also increase this player's skill set on the bump.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
