08/29/2024 - All-Ripken Games - Baltimore, MD James Phelps, a talented SS/3B from Pasadena, MD, recently showcased his skills at the All-Ripken Games. On the mound, he pitched a fastball at 55 MPH, demonstrating effective movement with arm-side run. James does a great job of pitching ahead of hitters, displaying competitiveness against every batter he faces. However, he will benefit from focusing on holding runners more effectively. At the plate, James has a tall, open stance that allows him to generate good power. He made a notable impact with a two-out, two-RBI double to center field, as well as an RBI single, highlighting his ability to come through in clutch situations. His offensive contributions, combined with his defensive versatility, make him a valuable player for any team. With continued development, particularly in his ability to manage runners and refine his pitching strategy, James is poised for significant growth in his game!

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
