12/20/2023 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 James continues to impress with improvements in his baseball abilities at the Pirate City Christmas tournament. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.25 runner. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. He utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 72 mph. Fastball shows range of 69-72 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

06/19/2023 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 James continues to shine with his baseball abilities at the Omaha event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.35 60 time. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. In the OF, he displays smooth fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. He utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 67-69 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

03/26/2023 - National Showcase - Manalapan, NJ James is an OF/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2026. Medium frame lean build with strength present and plenty of room to add throughout. In the OF, showed active/efficient feet and ability to cover ground in all directions. Aggressive routes enable him to create good fielding angles as he works through the ball. Showed ability to flip his hips and go get balls. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with on-line throws into infield. On the mound, this right-handed pitcher has a good rear hip coil and keeps his eyes on target. He gathers over rubber and rotates to target. Attacks hitters with his FB that sits 68-69mph. Mixed in an 11/5 shaped breaking ball that he throws for strikes, a slider from the same window as CB, and a changeup that he throws with FB arm speed. CB was best pitch during his bullpen. A right-handed hitter, starts with an athletic and square stance. Has an on-time glide step, with a small hand load, and tracks pitches well. A direct barrel path enables him to hit balls consistently to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 76mph during BP. As he continues to develop and mature, we foresee James making huge strides on the baseball field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
