02/22/2013 - Yankees Spring Training Experience (Ages 14-18) Cleghorn showed improvement behind the plate, specifically with his blocking and receiving. He setup well, maintained athletic positions and moved laterally well. His arm action was short to throw, and his footwork was solid. Can worked to soften his glove arm some to receive, and can continue to get his arm slot up to throw. At the plate, he setup well and showed good hands. He tended to over stride, and was frequently out of rhythm with his launch action. With work to get his stride foot down sooner, and shorter, he will be able to maintain an athletic posture throughout his swing and will be able to improve the quality of his contact.

11/08/2012 - Baseball Factory Training & Competition at Pirate City Jared improved in every area of his game since we last saw him in July. He ran his lowest 60 time to date, now running it in 8.52. Offensively, his hitting and power numbers climbed due to his solid barrel accuracy and quick hands. At the event he went 3 for 6 with 3 singles. He shows an athletic setup and hits line drives. Behind the plate he lowered his pop time, now throwing a 2.40 through a quick exchange. He shows decent flexion in his setup, has some sway and moves well laterally to black balls in the dirt. Staying in-line and finishing through on his throws will help to lower pop times.

07/17/2012 - Interactive Video Program - Charleston, WV Jared is a thin, athletic, 2-way player who plays SS and catcher. At SS, Jared has soft hands, quick feet, and he attacks the ball aggressively. He moves well laterally, and throws with accuracy from a short arm action. Behind the plate, Jared has soft hands, he tracks the ball well, and he keeps the ball in front. Offensively, Jared has an athletic set-up, good balance, and he is short to the ball. He has a line drive approach and he gets his lower 1/2 through. Abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Field out in front
2. Earlier glove
3. Long toss
Catching
1. Raise arm slot
2. Throw downhill
3. Blocking
Offense
1. Let ball travel
2. Rhythm / Timing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
