Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/OFPosition Projection

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Jared showed very good ability at both positions during his time at the UA Preseason All-America. He currently projects better on the mound than in the OF. On the mound, Jared has good mound presence and pitchability. He has a polished delivery, easy arm action, and command of all 3 pitches. Jared changes eye levels of the hitters well, and mixes looks with runners on base. His off-speed pitches are very good and he has great command of his CH. Added arm strength and velocity will help Jared continue to turn heads of College Coaches. In the OF, Jared attacks the ball aggressively and plays through it well. He has a good idea of the OF position, and throws accurately to his target. A better crow hop and added arm strength will make Jared an even bigger dual threat at the next level. Offensively, Jared improved his hitting and power grades from 48 to 50, and 42 to 48 respectively. He has a compact swing, good extension, and drives the baseball. Jared has a level bat path and if he can keep his hands going directly toward the baseball, we could see hitting get even better.

06/28/2009 - Team One West 2009 At the TeamOne West Showcase Jared showed some versatility as a dual position player. His strong suit may be in the outfield, where he did a good job defensively, adjusting his routes on bad hops and displaying a solid load. He did a good job of setting himself up with his feet to make very accurate throws. An area of improvement for Jared lies in shortening the number of steps from when he loads, to when he releases the ball. At the plate, he displays a double load and a rotational bat path. He has good balance and easy, hands that allow him to center the ball with consistency. As a pitcher, Jared showed a decent fastball, and the ability to be effective down in the zone. He has a tendency to slow his arm stroke down when throwing his off-speed pitches, but he can still maintain effectiveness due to his ability to work both sides of the plate.

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Jared is a two way player in the OF and on the mound as a LHP with a thin frame that does show projection as it continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is average and he does need to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. He does show a solid first step in reading balls off the bat in tracking down balls in the OF and utilizes his feet well through the throwing process. Defensive abilities are solid average. Arm strength is slightly average and does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in developing more arm strength and carry on throws. At the plate, Gaynor has solid average ability with slightly average power. He loads well and shows a compact swing path, working to keep hands inside the baseball, utilizing all fields. He shows a solid eye as he drew 3 BB and was 2 for 4 at the event. On the mound, fastball shows sinking action with plus command to both sides of the plate. Breaking ball is a solid average displaying a 1/7 shape with average spin and a big break. Jared has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
