05/05/2013 - College PREP - Adrian, MI Jarrett is a young, lanky OF/RHP that will graduate in 2016. In the OF, feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he works to get behind, playing through well. Throws are accurate but needs to develop better footwork to throw and build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Thomas shows a squared, balanced approach. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly the pull side. For hitting grades to improve, he needs keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 71-74 mph with slight arm side run. Changeup is his best off speed pitch showing a feel for with solid arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He throws a knuckleball that displays sink but has a lot of rotation. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. With 3 years to further develop, Jarrett has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
