01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Pirate City Jason continues to improve his game. He is a hard worker who brings his all and wants to get the best out of himself. Defensively, this middle infielder shows good prep and plays on the balls of his feet. He makes the backhand play smoothly and plays through the ball, working in-line toward 1B. Offensively, this righty has good zone awareness and only swings at pitches he wants (drew 3 walks). Barrel delivery is quick with plus bat speed, resulting in hard hit line-drives. He hits the ball where it's pitched and uses the whole field. Utilizing the strongest part of his body (lower 1/2) will result in increased power at the plate. Jason has the work ethic to improve and get his game where he wants it to be.

05/19/2013 - College PREP - Rochester, NY Jason is 2B/OF who has a MIF type build. He maintains active footwork and gets into a square fielding position. He is aggressive and shows some lateral range. Fielding the ball further out in front of his body will help to improve his abilities fielding ground balls. In the OF, he works well to get behind the fly-ball. He catches it at its highest point and has a quick exchange, making accurate throws toward his target. At the plate, this right-handed hitter displays an athletic setup and good balance. He makes consistent/square contact and is a pull-type hitter. As only a 2016 grad, Downs has a lot of time to continue and develop in his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
