02/19/2023 - National Showcase - Orange (Los Angeles), CA Jason continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities on the diamond. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner. Pop times showed in the 2.25 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a crouched setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-80 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving stock on the mound.

02/16/2020 - National Tryout Plus - Cypress (Los Angeles), CA Jason continues to progress in his abilities and once again did so in Cypress, CA. Behind the plate, Jason has active feet, firm hands, and he sits in squarely. He blocks quickly, receives softly, and throws with carry and momentum from a short arm action to 2nd base. Pop times were as low as 2.25 seconds. On the mound, Jason has good balance and a loose arm circle. He gets good extension toward the plate and throws strikes. Offensively, Jason has an athletic stance, good balance, and fast bat speed. He makes hard/level contact, he swings aggressively, and shows pop potential.

09/08/2019 - National Tryout Plus - La Verne (Los Angeles), CA Jason raised velocity to 77 MPH, hitting numbers to 42's, and showed solid all around skills during his last workout in La Verne. Behind the plate, Jason has quick feet, agile movements, and he catches athletically. He sticks the ball well, keeps it in front when blocking, and throws to 2nd base with accuracy and carry. On the mound, Jason has good balance, a repeatable delivery, and a quick/clean arm action. He uses his lower body, lands with a proper length stride, and he rotates through completely to his target. At the plate, Jason has an athletic stance, fast bat speed, and a rhythmic stroke. He makes square contact, works the ball gap to gap, and he uses his lower body. Jason is a nice all around ball player!

07/21/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Jason continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.30 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he continues to build more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a squared setup and receives the ball well. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to get down sooner to improve grade. At the plate, power potential has improved through an open setup with balance. Hands are quick and work through level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact, showing a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. The baseball jumps off the bat when centered. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 71-73 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with across break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

03/17/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Jason is a solid, athletic, 2-way player who catches and pitches. Behind the plate, Jason has quick feet, agile movements, and he blocks softly. He works around the ball well, tracks to his glove, and throws with a quick release and consistency to 2nd base. Pop times were as low as 2.3 seconds. On the mound, Jason has good balance, a loose arm circle, and he finishes completely. His CB shows promise and he competes in the zone with his pitches. At the plate, Jason has a crouched set-up, a square stride, and he swings aggressively. He stays behind the ball well and works the middle of the field. Overall skills can get better with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
