04/22/2018 - College PREP - Louisville, KY Jax is a solid, strong catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, working to and through the point of contact, creating extension. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed a range of 2.15-2.30 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he tracks balls well through the receiving process but will benefit by presenting a lower target. He uses his body well through the blocking process and moves well laterally, centering all balls out front. With 2 years to further develop, Jax has a lot of potential with a lot of room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
