10/26/2022 - Baseball Factory Best of The West - Upperclass Jay is a 2023 RHP/1B out of Granada Hills, CA who showcased his skills during the Best of the West Tournament. At 1B, he showed good range and soft hands that work out front. He worked to center the baseball and has a low funnel. He fields from a low fielding position with activated feet. He made accurate throws from a high 3/4 arm slot to second base with an arm velocity up to 81mph. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and even stance with comfortable hands. He activates his hands and keeps his weight between his knees. He made contact to all fields. During the games, he made consistent contact and reached base multiple times. A right-handed pitcher, he works exclusively from the stretch. He has good feel for pitching and is composed on the mound. He attacks hitters with cutting action, and an 11/5 shaped breaking ball with plus command. Jay projects best on the mound and has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field with continued work. We look forward to seeing what the future holds as he enters his senior baseball season.

04/03/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Jacinto, CA Jay is a strong (6’1/200) two-way player in the 2023 class. At 1B, he has effective feet and centers his body to the baseball. Fields in an athletic set-up and is solid in his backhand play. Moves well around the bag and times his picks with ease. Has short arm action and can change his slots based upon his defensive zone. Demonstrates a solid arm (81 velo) and feeds are on-line. On the mound, he gains good extension and uses his lower half well. Has three pitches with solid location. His FB topped at 79 and cuts late. His CB sat 60-64 with 11/5 shape. His SL sat 61-65 and has a feel for the zone. At the plate, He has strong hands and uses the whole field. Can spray line drives from pole to pole using a short stroke and syncing his lower half into his swing. Overall, Jay is a solid prospect and has the ability to make an impact on a college roster in a few years.

03/13/2022 - All-In Membership - Thousand Oaks, CA Jay is a tall RHP/1B prospect who will graduate in 2023. On the mound, Jay gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works inline toward the plate and extends through his release, finishing with his chest over his front knee. Jay operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 79mph. Breaking ball sits from 60-62mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 62-64mph with tailing action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Loosening his arm action can help Jay improve his pitch command. In the field, Jay shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He makes the routine plays and keeps his throws accurate/on-line to his target. Jay can field ground balls more efficiently by getting into a more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth to load and engages his lower half well. He works through a direct swing and drives the ball to the opposite field. Loosening his grip on the bat can help Jay barrel up more baseballs. Overall, Jay is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
