03/06/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Lynwood (Chicago), IL Jaylen continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At 3B, he displays proper footwork, attacks balls and play through well with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. At the plate, hitting/power potential have improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball shows a range of 72-73 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches.

08/02/2020 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Jaylen is an athletic (6'2"/155) 3B/RHP who worked hard on his skills during his time at Pirate City. At 3B, he displays clean/smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork working into a square fielding position behind the GB. Glove action is smooth with a clean transfer to throw. At the plate, he shows an open setup with fluid rhythm to load. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, he works quickly and doesn't give hitters time to settle in. Fastball showed a range of 69-71 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all of his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 3 years to further develop, Jaylen has upside with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
