08/03/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 JD is an athletic 2 way player who continues to play hard and work hard on his game. Offensively is where he showed best, with good rhythm and tracking skills, the ball jumps off his bat (84 exit velocity), he shows easy power to all fields. Keeping his swing path level and trying to hit the inner 1/2 of the baseball will help with contact skills. At 3rd base, he sets up athletically pre pitch, creating good angles to ground balls to work under and through. Presenting his glove out in front to field will help greatly. On the mound, he shows good balance and direction, throwing consistently good strikes with his fastball that has late run to it. A 2018 graduate, JD shows promise at both positions/at the plate and will catch the eye of college coaches.

05/28/2016 - College PREP - Salt Lake City, UT JD is an athletic RHP/3B who has a promising future on the diamond. At 3B, feet are aggressive as he moves well laterally. Glove action is soft / sure as he presents on time. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel, displaying gap to gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 72-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with sharp / late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with cutting action. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. With 2 years to further develop, JD has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
