04/21/2013 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Schwartz continues to show as a SS/OF but currently projects slightly better in the OF for the next level. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls but needs to work on getting behind balls more to play through and continue to improve defensive grade. At SS, he works to square balls up but needs to play through while presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Jeff shows a balanced setup. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more.

02/22/2013 - Yankees Spring Training Experience (Ages 14-18) Jeffrey is a solid player who has a willingness to learn. Defensively in the OF, he is aggressive and comes to get the ball. He takes a quick first step, which allows his to take good angles to the ball. Loosening up his actions and playing through the ball more will both help to improve defensive abilities. As a hitter, Schwartz gets into a solid loaded position and keeps his weight back. He has strength in his swing and gets the barrel through the zone on a level path. Using more of his lower 1/2 will help to increase pop off of the bat. Jeffrey has a desire for the game, asked questions and is very coachable. With his demeanor and coachablity, he will continue to improve in his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
