10/02/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Parker (Denver), CO Jess is a talented 2B prospect with a projectable frame. As a right-handed hitter, Jess has a square, athletic stance with a firm front side and he takes a short stride. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and shows above average bat speed. Jess has an on plane swing path and gets separation with hands as he explodes late in his swing producing square contact. He has a line drive approach hitting the ball to all fields and shows power to the pull side. In the field, Jess plays with effective footwork taking the correct angles to give him good range. He is working to receive the baseball with a softer glove, but he does a quick, clean exchange. Jess throws with a short, loose arm action from a 3/4 slot with a quick release. Overall, Jess is solid prospect who can certainly impact a program at the next level.

05/08/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Lakewood (Denver), CO Jess continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he his best 60 time to date. At the plate is where he has improved the most through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing. He makes consistent contact and shows good barrel accuracy as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball exploding off the bat, displaying gap to gap power. At 2B, defensive abilities have improved, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Hands are clean as he presents well out front and he works to square balls up. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turn of the double play. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and carry on his throws.

12/27/2015 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Jess is a hardworking player who showed as a 'team first' type guy. In the MIF, feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. He makes the routine plays and shows sound fundamentals but will benefit by presenting glove more out front. Athletic abilities are shown on his feeds / turn of the double play. At the plate, he tracks balls well and makes consistent contact and shows a feel for the barrel, mainly to the pull side. He does not get cheated as he takes a cut but will benefit by leveling out swing path and creating more extension. Jess has a lot of potential and is a player to keep an eye on.

10/04/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Parker (Denver), CO Jess continues to work hard and make great strides in his game. With the bat, this righty shows a simple/quiet setup with patience, letting the ball travel. Swing is level to and through the zone as he connects and extends well through his finish. Even more lower 1/2 drive will result in added power. At 2B, Jess has active footwork as he moves well into an athletic/square fielding position. He takes a good angle to the backhand, has a quick release and fires accurate throws to 1B. Jess is a solid MIF (2017 grad) who still has time to develop.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Jess is an athletic 2B that has a bright future in the game. At 2B he is aggressive with his approach, he fields with soft hands, and he takes good angles to the ball. His backhands are advanced for his age and he works well around the bag with double plays. His exchange is quick and he makes accurate throws with life. At the plate he has good balance, level swing, and he makes consistent contact. He is an aggressive hitter and goes to the plate with a good approach.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
