12/27/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 2 Jesse is a young catcher with a solid frame that is well suited for his position. He shows projection to be a good college catcher as he continues to mature. Foot speed is solid (especially for a catcher) as indicated by his 7.28 60 time. Defensively, his feet are active in working in line with his target as he displays a clean transfer and exchange in getting rid of the baseball quickly. His best pop times show a range of 2.02-2.12 which he threw for us at his original workout in October. Though his times were not quite that good at the tournament, he continued to show above average arm strength, as his throws displayed carry and accuracy. He has the potential to be a solid catch and throw guy at the next level, as he can control the run game with that arm. His throws can be consistently better if he can quicken up his exchange by not catching the ball deep, which he does at times. Receiving and blocking skills are outstanding showing as quality tools at the next level. Working on his footwork defensively will help his blocking continue to improve. Offensively, Ellis shows a balanced setup allowing his hands to work directly to the baseball through a level swing path. He loads well and transfers weight properly through his lower half with a short stride. With 2 years to further develop, Jesse has a lot of potential with the makings to be a solid player as he continues to improve.
