06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Jimmy showed as a 3B and on the mound for the first time but currently projects best at 3B for the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.18. He utilizes his quick feet well in his lateral movement defensively. Hands are soft / clean and work to square balls up. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to present hands more out front. At the plate, Nicholas shows a balanced approach and uses his lower half well with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and he puts the ball into play. At the event, he was 2 for 7, including missing a home run that just went foul. His power improved a lot since we first saw him. On the mound, his breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Changeup shows fading action but slows arm speed, tipping off pitch to hitters. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, works hard, and truly is a student of the game.
