12/30/2012 - College PREP - Swarthmore (Philadelphia), PA Joseph is an athletic, 2-way player who catches and plays 3B. Behind the plate, Joseph has sure hands, playable feet, and he catches athletically. He takes good angles to block, covers the 5 hole well, and he throws with accuracy to his target. More glove extension and added arm strength will help improve catching skills. At 3B, Joseph has soft / sure hands, quick feet, and he fields fluidly. He has a clean exchange, and throws with accuracy to his target. Looser body actions and attacking the ball more aggressively will improved abilities at 3rd. Offensively, Joseph has a square set-up, good balance, and fast bat speed. He makes hard contact, works the ball gap-to-gap, and he gets his lower 1/2 through. Keeping his front hip closed and better timing can spike hitting numbers. Only a freshman, he is a very good player, especially with the bat, and he will be one to watch as he gets older.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
