08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Joe continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Defensive grades have improved as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean as he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. He moves well laterally, flashing range, especially glove side. For grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more while presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting grades have improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 5 for 9. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard.

02/24/2013 - College PREP - Mechanicsburg (Harrisburg), PA Joe is a tall, thin, 1st baseman who will graduate in 2014. Defensively, Joe has playable feet, sure hands, and he shows good range. He moves with agility to the ball, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy and average strength to his target. Attacking the ball more aggressively, and fielding further out front will improve defensive skills. At the plate, Joe has a tall set-up, good balance, and he keeps a still head. He has a level swing, average bat speed, and he gets his lower 1/2 through. Hitting can improve if Joe can keep his hands high and shorten his swing.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
