08/04/2010 - Pirate City World Series 2010 - Session 1 Joe is a young (2013) OF/RHP with a tall, solid frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature, filling out. We currently like him more as an outfielder for the next level. Feet are active in taking proper routes and angles in tracking down balls. Spica needs to continue to work on getting behind balls to play through with momentum to his target. Hands work as he displays a reliable glove. He has plus arm strength with life, carry, and accuracy on his throws. As a pitcher, Spica is a strike thrower, but needs more arm speed and leg drive, as well as a development of a change up to be an effective pitcher at the next level. Offensively, Spica shows a balanced approach with hands working inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. With 3 years to further develop, Joe has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he improves. He has good instincts and is very coachable with a strong desire to get better.
