12/02/2012 - College PREP - McCook (Chicago), IL Joey is an athletic, two-position player who showed similar abilities in the infield and behind the plate. At 2B, he has good prep work with his feet. He takes a low approach to the ball and plays through. Feet are active and double play feeds are solid, though he can show the ball better on flips. His glove is late at times on the back hand, and would like to see him soften the glove up in general. Behind the plate, he makes consistent throws with average arm strength. Feet are quick but he can quicken his transfer some. Nice flex in his stance and a quiet glove on the catch. He is compact and presents pitches well. Quick on the block with good flexion and average lateral range and angles. With the bat, Joey shows some strength. His approach is quiet and he utilizes his lower half well. Can loosen up his grip some and tends to get the shoulders too involved in the swing causing him to hit with some topspin. As he relaxes his hands, he should see better bat speed and a better bat plane allowing him to hit with more backspin. Solid young player overall.
