12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Joey continues to show a bright future on the diamond. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently through the swing. At SS, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he takes good first steps in attacking the baseball. Glove action is soft / clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

11/19/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Marlborough (Boston), MA Joey showed nice improvements offensively and defensively during his last workout in Boston. Offensive numbers improved to 45 and 42 respectively, showing smooth rhythm, good feel for the barrel, and fast bat speed. Joey gets through the ball well, makes solid/consistent contact, and he uses his lower body. At SS, Joey showed an aggressive approach, soft/sure hands, and good pre-pitch actions. He fields athletically, has a quick exchange, and throws with accuracy from a short arm action to his target.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Joey is a lean 3B/RHP who graduate in 2019. At the plate is where he shows best through a tall setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He has plus hand / eye coordination and shows a solid feel for the barrel. Hands work inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. At 3B, feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through a low approach. Glove action is clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 69-71 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break as needs to stay more on top of pitch. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Control is solid as he attacks hitter-throwing strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, works hard, and is a great team player. With 2 years to further develop, Joey has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
