Official Scouting Report

  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

07/27/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Joey is a tall and lanky 2020 2-way prospect that works hard and made several adjustments throughout the week at Pirate City. At 1B, Joey has an active prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and is aggressive to the ball. He needs to improve footwork and feeds on double plays. Continuing to practice game like throws in his throwing program will increase his ability to throw from multiple arm angles and on the run. At the plate, Joey starts in an open stance and keeps the barrel on plane with the ball. He needs to get his front foot down on time, keep a quiet head, and read the ball out of the pitcher's hand. This will allow him to see the ball deep and improve pitch recognition. On the bump, Joey gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and has a clean arm stroke. He creates run on his fastball and has a medium breaking on his curveball. Developing a change up will allow him to work off his fastball more efficiently. Joey will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

03/24/2017 - College PREP - Dubai, UAE Joey has showed great improvements to his athleticism as he continues to grow and fill out. Defensively, he worked low to field (impressive for his 6'3" frame), and had soft hands. He threw with a quick arm across the diamond and had clean footwork around the bag. At the plate, he has natural leverage hitting off his front side, and is consistent with his line-drive contact. He showed smooth rhythm and has a strong finish. On the mound, his frame and overall presence fits the mold, as the southpaw gathers over the rubber and separates on-time giving way to clean arm action. Joey has a three pitch mix, with a sinking FB, 1/7 CB, and sinking CH. All in all - Joey has crazy projectability in the game and is becoming an impressive athlete.

07/24/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Joey is a lanky, young 2 way player who primarily pitches and plays first base. On the mound, he hides the ball well, featuring a 60-62 mph fastball from an over the top arm angle. Adding a changeup or a curveball to add variety to his repotoire will help him greatly. At 1st base, he has a good arm for the position and footwork that is efficient on his fielding/throws. Getting lower to field/showing his hands out in front will help field ground balls more cleanly. Offensively, he is primarily a contact hitter who peppers the middle of the field consistently, with activated hands and a smooth foot strike. Being more balanced/athletic in his setup will help contact and power skills. Joey has a lot of room to grow in this game and will continue to improve.

03/25/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Dubai, UAE Joey showed strong actions on all sides of the baseball, once again, at his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. Defensively at 1B, he worked to the baseball efficiently, and got to his fielding position on-time to make plays. He worked his glove in front, and quickly made adjustments to pick his hops and get low to field. His footwork around the bag showed vast improvements and he began stretching on-time for maximum reach. Offensively, Joey hit from a solid base and got to a good launch position on-time with activated hands. He used the entire field with his approach and has good natural leverage with his long frame, hitting off a stiff front side. On the hill, he threw a FB and a CH with a repeatable delivery and a clean arm stroke. He was smooth with his actions and had good overall pitchability. All in all - we enjoy working with such a great kid that brings energy and a competitive fiber to the ball park day in and day out.

07/06/2015 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition Joey continues to show as a 1B/LHP with solid play in his abilities. At 1B, he is a quality receiver, displaying proper footwork around the bag, and displays clean hands. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he presents hands more out front and increases foot quickness. At the plate, shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path, display a solid line drive approach. He makes consistent contact as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields and shows a feel for the barrel. Power grade will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 50-53 mph with arm side run. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength, works to throw more strikes, and develops better off speed stuff. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

04/06/2015 - College PREP - Dubai, UAE Joey is a L/L 1B/LHP that showed a very high ceiling with good fundamental ability in his first outing with Baseball Factory. Offensively, he was simple in his setup with good balance and looseness. He worked his hands to get them activated to launch and delivered the barrel on a direct / level path to contact. He generated good leverage off his stiff front side and with more lower half drive will really begin to hit with great pop. At 1B, he worked to make plays with ready hands and threw with fluidity. On the hill, he was mechanically simple and sound, with a smooth delivery. He was free with his arm action and got good extension out in front. His frame really projects him well as a southpaw, and with continued strength over time, will be a very strong prospect. Overall - Joey is a no sir / yes sir type ball player that has great energy and a competitive demeanor.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
