12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament John Paul is a 2B who performed well at the Pirate City Christmas Tournament. He is a hard-working, coachable young man - the kind you want on your team. At 2B, he has an aggressive approach and soft, sure hands. He has a quick exchange and makes strong, accurate throws with good arm action. We thought that his arm improved overall since we first saw him a couple of months ago but he can still work on raising his arm slot on his throws. As his first step quickness improves he will increase his range in the infield as well. At the plate, he has a disciplined approach, showing good knowledge of the strike zone and working counts. He flashes some bat speed and has a short, level stroke. A square launch position will lead to more consistent solid contact. He also needs to make sure he does not overcompensate or his open stance by closing too far. Overall, John Paul is a solid, dependable 2B who can handle the bat. We can envision him in the #2 spot in a lineup and being a leader on the field in the future.
