12/27/2010 - UA Recruiting Classic - 2010 John is a young (2013) two-way player on the mound plus at 1B with a solid, athletic body that is well suited for his positions. Foot speed is below average as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active as he displays a low approach to and through the baseball. Hands are playable displaying a soft, clean, and sure glove action. Throws are accurate, showing carry into his target. He will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and raising velocities. Offensively, Caskey shows a solid setup and loads well allowing his hands to work directly to the baseball. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed to and through baseball at contact. He utilizes all fields as he keeps hands inside the ball while letting the ball travel. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 80-83 with slight sink on a strong downhill plane. Slider is best off speed pitch, displaying 10/4 shape with tight spin and late break. Changeup shows average feel for with sinking action. Breaking balls has loose spin and slow break. He attacks hitters, throwing strikes with all his pitches. With 3 years to further develop, John has a lot of potential and could be a solid two-way player as he continues to develop.
