11/15/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Deer Park (Houston), TX John is an athletic catcher who will graduate in 2024. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner and create better angles. Pop times showed in 2.60 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. With 4 years to further develop, John has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
