Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SSPosition Projection

08/09/2010 - Team One Northeast 2010 - Scouting Report John is a strong, athletic, SS who showed similar skills at Team One Northeast as he has done in previous workouts. John is a solid SS, who presents his glove well, has quick feet, and who moves well laterally. He has soft / sure hands, he gets rid of the ball quickly, and he throws accurately across the diamond. Offensively, John has free hands, good strength, and good bat speed. He centers the ball well on the barrel, works the ball up the box, and makes good use of his lower 1/2. John will be a solid player at the next level.

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 John is a young, strong, and athletic player who showed good skills at the UA Preseason All-America. In the middle INF, John has good hands and feet, and an accurate arm across the diamond. He plays low to high, has soft hands, and his arm action is quick. John made some very tough plays in game play, and overall shows solid baseball instincts. Offensively, John has good balance and bat speed. He is an aggressive hitter with a level swing path. John makes solid contact, and with a better load and quicker timing, hitting numbers can further improve.

10/04/2009 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ John continues to show steady improvement with his baseball abilities. At the plate, demonstrated a good approach as he stayed balance throughout. Good rhythm and timing with above average bat speed allowed the ball to jump off his barrel every time. Had good quick hands to hitting zone but bars front arm at times which makes swing be shouldery. With level swing thru hitting zone, this eliminates any lift in swing and allows him to hit balls all over the field. At SS, showed good loose arm action as he made accurate throws. Stringent long toss program will help improve his velocity. Good presentation allowed him utilize his soft hands as he fielded the ball out front. Moved aggressively to balls as he came from the right and played thru them well. Made decent feeds and quick turns as he completed double plays.

07/29/2009 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament - 2009 John is a young SS with a solid average body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is solid average and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in coming to get and playing through ground balls with his feet and hands. Lateral movement is a plus displaying range. Hands are soft and sure displaying a sure glove action. Defensive abilities are above average in the middle of the infield. Arm strength is above average showing life, carry, and accuracy on his throws across the diamond. At the plate, Jennings has well above average abilities and power through a balanced approach. He loads well and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He shows a line drive approach displaying a solid feel for the barrel and will hit at the next level. With 2 years to further develop, John has a ton of potential and will get a ton of looks from the collegiate coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
