11/13/2016 - College PREP - Davie, FL John is a R/R catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, hands / feet work well together through a quick / clean transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.12-2.20 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. He tracks balls well, displaying a soft glove and is quick to recover through the blocking process. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive approach. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, John has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
