08/02/2011 - Vero Beach Pro Select Training and Competition - 2011 John improved in a few areas of his game during his time at Vero Beach. His hitting and power grades improved and are now at 42 and 45 respectively. At the plate, John has quick hands, a level swing, and can spray the ball gap-to-gap. At times his swing tends to get long as he needs to be short and compact to the ball. More lower 1/2, a looser / more relaxed grip, and a smoother swing will all benefit John's hitting grades. Defensively, he works from the ground up, secures the baseball, and makes accurate throws with carry. John needs to loosen up his actions, keep his head down on the ball, and field out in front to improve defensive grades. Morris is a solid player and will only continue to get better.

05/29/2011 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN John is a tall, solid 1B that will graduate in 2012. Foot speed is average as indicated by his 7.50 60 time as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active but needs to be more aggressive in coming to get and play through balls with his body. Hands are clean but deep due to feet stopping through the fielding process. Foot work is solid around the bag and he is a good receiver. Throws are accurate but he must get on a long toss program to aid in further building more arm strength with carry. Offensively, Morris shows a balanced approach and tracks the ball well. He makes consistent contact but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving quickly with instruction and adjustments. John has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
