03/21/2010 - College PREP - Hightstown, NJ John is a fast, athletic, OF with sound baseball skills. He has active feet in the OF and he works well to get behind the baseball. He is aggressive to the ball, he plays through it well, and his arm is accurate to the target. If John can add arm strength, and throw more over-top, to avoid the ball running, defensive abilities can further improve. Offensively, John improved his hitting and power grades from his last workout at the Christmas Camp. His hitting improved from 45 to 48, and his power from 42 to 45. John has good balance at the plate, his hands are direct to the ball, and he has good barrel accuracy. He can work the ball to all fields and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. Overall, John is a young OF with a bright upside.

12/19/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #1 John is an OF with an average body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.81 60 time as he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls in the OF. He reads balls well off the bat, getting great jumps. Throws display some life and carry on his throws but will benefit by getting on a long toss program. Offensively, Sorrentino makes consistent contact, flashing bat speed as he shows a feel for the barrel as he was 2 for 6 at the event. John has potential and will catch the eyes of the college coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
